Geochemical transformations of sulfur in salt lakes (Transbaikalia)

چکیده

The water column in brackish and saline lakes hosts various forms of sulfur including sulfide (hydrosulfide), elemental, thiosulfate, sulfate sulfur. unequal distribution these reduced species indicates the presence two opposing processes - reduction oxidation newly formed hydrogen sulfide. scale varies among lakes, resulting differing proportions forms. bacterial ions is confirmed by a significant separation isotopes into ions, with lighter isotope accumulating former heavier latter. In most soda, chloride, brackish, salt principal process responsible for relatively low ion content. Additionally, an oxidizing environment sulfides host rocks provide additional sources sulfates, leading to formation sulfate-type lakes. specific types subtypes determined such as evaporation, dissolution aluminosilicates, reduction, sulfides. dominance contributes geochemical diversity

Global geochemical cycles of carbon, sulfur and oxygen.

Time resolved data on the carbon isotopic composition of carbonate minerals and the sulfur isotopic composition or sulfate minerals show a strong negative correlation during the Cretaceous. Carbonate minerals are isotopically heavy during this period while sulfate minerals are isotopically light. The implication is that carbon is being transferred from the oxidized, carbonate reservoir to the r...

Microbial biogeography of six salt lakes in Inner Mongolia, China, and a salt lake in Argentina.

We used cultivation-independent methods to investigate the prokaryotic biogeography of the water column in six salt lakes in Inner Mongolia, China, and a salt lake in Argentina. These lakes had different salt compositions and pH values and were at variable geographic distances, on both local and intercontinental scales, which allowed us to explore the microbial community composition within the ...

Isolation, morphological and molecular identification of Dunaliella species in Hoz-e Soltan and Aran-va-Bidgol salt Lakes (Iran)

In this study, Dunaliella has been isolated in Jun. 2014 from Hoz-e Soltan and Aran-va-Bidgol salt Lakes (Iran). The isolates have been identified morphologically with the aid of simple light and invert microscope after isolation and purification on their specific medium (Moh202). By using molecular techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and amplification of 18S rDNA gene primers, f...

Coupling of carbon and silicon geochemical cycles in rivers and lakes

Carbon (C) and silicon (Si) biogeochemical cycles are important factors in the regulation of atmospheric CO2 concentrations and hence climate change. Theoretically, these elements are linked by chemical weathering and organism stoichiometry, but this coupling has not been investigated in freshwaters. Here we compiled data from global rivers and lakes in the United States of America and the Unit...

Geochemical characteristics of naturally acid and alkaline saline lakes in southern Western Australia

Abundant shallow saline lakes on the Archean Yilgarn Craton in southern Western Australia exhibit a rare spectrum of geochemical conditions. Here the field geochemistry over three seasons (pH, salinity, and temperature), as well as major ions, trace elements, and H, O, and S stable isotopes of surface waters and shallow groundwaters from 59 ephemeral lakes in southern Western Australia (WA) are...
